Interiors

Interiors that keep their woodwork

Wainscot, picture rail, crown, built-in bookcases and window seats are what make a Craftsman or Victorian interior. We paint them so the profiles stay sharp and the edges stay clean.

How a room goes

  • Walls, ceilings and woodwork priced as separate lines

  • Stained woodwork left alone unless you say otherwise

  • Furniture and floors covered; a vacuum at the end of each day

  • Rooms done in an order that leaves you somewhere to sit

Woodwork

Built-ins, seats and paneling

These are the pieces we are asked about most in older Seattle houses.

  • White painted built-in cabinet with paneled doors and trim

    Built-ins and bookcases

Paneled doors and shelves, sanded between coats for a smooth, hard finish.

  • White painted built-in cabinets around a window seat

    Window seats and nooks

Cushion boards, drawers and trim, painted so they hold up to daily use.

  • Dining room with blue walls, white wainscoting and chandelier

    Arches and wainscot

Cut in by hand along rails and panels, with caulk lines that disappear.

A typical room

A room, day by day

Day ranges for one room with trim. Larger rooms and stair halls take longer, and the estimate says how long.

  1. 01

Step 1: Day 1: cover and prep

Furniture is gathered and covered, floors protected, holes filled and trim sanded.

  2. 02

Step 2: Day 2: prime and caulk

Stains and bare spots get primer; seams get caulk.

  3. 03

Step 3: Days 3 to 4: finish coats

Ceiling, walls, then woodwork, with drying time between coats.

  4. 04

Step 4: Day 5: put back and walk through

Covers come off, furniture goes back and we look at everything together.

Questions we get most

Do I need to be home, and do I need to move things?

For exteriors, move cars off the drive and tell us about gates and pets. You don't have to be home. For interiors, we move furniture to the middle of the room and cover it, but please clear shelves, walls and small items first.

What about odor, children and pets?

Ask us for the product data sheet for any paint we propose; it lists what is in it and how long to stay out of a room. We'll plan which rooms to do first so you have a place to sit.

Who buys the paint, and which brand?

We buy it and list it on the estimate. We use premium exterior and interior paint, name the product, and give you its data sheet if you ask.

Tell us which rooms.

We'll walk them with you and write each one on its own line.
